The 30 Day Fitness Challenge Begins

I was struggling. Two days earlier I had just finished my 20k One Year Step Challenge…20,000 steps every day for a year with no breaks. That was now in the rear view mirror, but my daily goal was still 20k. And, on this day it was going to be really hard logistically to reach. Most of the day would be spent in the car driving home from the beach and then attending an afternoon wedding which was an hour away.

If you are doing the 30 Day New Year Fitness Challenge, welcome to Day One! You are likely exhilarated by your new fitness journey and the transformation it promises. That feels great, and it should! Enjoy every moment as you move towards reaching your step goal today.

But, as you enjoy this new beginning, also remember these feelings won’t last. They never do. That’s why 92% of all New Year’s Resolutions don’t even make it to the end of January. They are powered by feelings that aren’t sustainable.

Eventually all fitness goals hit the wall. The feelings die off and the hoped for transformation isn’t happening as fast as you want. Throw that in the mixer with a day where you are tired and over scheduled and guess what doesn’t happen?

Which only makes it easier to miss the next day and the day after that.

The real goal of your new fitness journey is NOT the transformation, but creating a new daily habit. Every day you reach your step goal is a win, a BIG WIN, and that win becomes a link in a growing chain.

As I was driving home from vacation and struggling with how I was going to reach 20,000 steps that day, it was the chain that provided the motivation I needed. Every day I reached 20k added another link to that chain. I didn’t want to break that.

A lot of work and effort had gone into building a chain that long with that many wins. Didn’t want it to end. And, so it didn’t.

Enjoy this first day and the exhilaration that comes with it. But, remember the real goal of this 30 Day New Year Fitness Challenge is creating a daily fitness habit which builds fitness momentum and eventually leads to fitness transformation.

This 30 Day New Year Fitness Challenge Guide will help you set the right goal for you and also includes a contract that you can make with yourself. That may sound cheesy, but it’s the commitments we make to ourselves that sometimes are the easiest to break.

This free guide also includes a 30 Day Win Tracker to help you celebrate your daily wins!

  1. Happy New Year! So grateful I am part of this team! Today my husband and I are going on a hike that the state parks put together!!! Happy steps!!

  2. My first thought this morning when I remembered the beginning of the 30 day challenge was “ I’m so tired, feels like I’ve been going nonstop since Thanksgiving, I really deserve a day to just lay around and relax. I’ll just start tomorrow.” But I had printed out and signed the contract that said I was going to start January 1st. As you said, that did make a difference for me today, thank you for that. I am less then 1000 steps from my goal for today and will get that when I take my dog for a walk tonight. Thank you so much for investing in the wellbeing of others! God bless you Dave.
