What are you thankful for?
That’s a great question that should be asked far more than once per year. But, even if you only hear that one time a year…it’s still worth taking time to reflect on the answer.
I have so much to be grateful for and with your permission I’d like to mention two things.
Almost a year ago my wife, Ava, was in a serious car crash. Last fall we bough our new home in South Carolina. Ava moved in right after we settled on October 13. I returned to Maryland to wrap up the sale of our house there and to finish out the year as part of the morning show on 95.1 SHINE-FM.
I moved down here permanently on December 26. The following day was the accident. I’m grateful Ava survived. I’m grateful she has mostly healed from her injuries. I’m grateful we are even closer because of the accident.
In my full-time job at the radio station, I do a podcast called Long Story Short. Last week’s episode tells the story of that terrible day. While it’s about the accident it’s really a love story. If you’re looking for a podcast to listen to next time you walk, here’s a link for this episode.
By the way…the ending will take you by surprise.
The second thing I’m grateful for is the ability and desire to stay active. I love walking and still get close to 20,000 steps every day. And these are not “I have to” walks. These are “I get to” walks.
I can’t imagine not being able to do this every day. And, the cool thing is…most days as I’m walking I feel gratitude for the opportunity to walk as much as I do.
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to write this blog and produce a companion podcast…which is going to become a daily podcast on December 1. It’ll be a ten-minute walk together as we hold each other accountable for creating and maintaining a lifestyle of fitness.
I’ve been practicing doing the podcast every day since November 1. Here’s a sample:
So, what are you thankful for? That’s a great question to ponder as you walk today.
