5 Ways Walking This Summer Will Make Your Life Better

Summer captivates me like no other season. It’s a full-on sensory experience. The smell of freshly cut grass. The sound of tree frogs in the evening. The taste of grilled corn on the cob. The feel of sunshine on my shoulders. The sight of lightning bugs dancing in the backyard.

Summer is also a great season for walking. There is no snow blocking your path, cold wind taking your breath away, or short days limiting your time outside. Summer is here and it’s time to move!

Since September I’ve been writing about all the ways walking can improve your life. Here are links to some of my favorite articles that could help make your life better this summer by walking more.

You Can Dream More

Walking is both a fitness activity and stress reducer. Long walks are an opportunity to let your mind wander and dream a little.

You Can Burn More Calories

The average person burns about 80 calories a mile when walking. That adds up nicely when you make it a five mile walk. Do that every day for a year and imagine where you’ll be next summer.

You Can Have More Fun

Walking is a lot of fun. There are so many different places to explore and people to do it with. And, if you have a Fitbit and you’re tracking your steps you can add in some competitive fun too!

Bonus Article-If you’ll be visiting Washington DC this summer, here’s a walking tour that will let you visit the most iconic sights AND get 20,000 steps on your Fitbit!

You Can Invest in Your Future

The time and energy you spend on your fitness and health today is an investment in your future. My primary motivation for walking every day is so I can age well.

You Can Start a Journey Towards Fitness

I believe everybody should include walking as a foundational fitness activity. Even if you’ve got other things you love doing you should still have a Fitbit strapped to your wrist and a daily step goal. If you have struggled with fitness, walking with a daily step goal is the perfect way to to reboot your fitness and make it stick this time.

Two More Things

If you don’t have a Fitbit, but want to get started I recommend the Inspire HR. It’s the one I use and it’s also Fitbit’s value step tracker. I guess that’s a fancy way of saying it’s the cheapest one they got. I wrote a review of my experience HERE

If you struggle with motivation to stick with fitness this blog will help. Don’t be intimated by the title. That’s my goal…not yours. But, my bigger goal is to help you start a fitness journey that has doesn’t stop and builds momentum.
